Born in Indonesia, Me & Maya’s founder and designer Lalita Russell-Smith has a lifelong passion for beautiful fabrics and clothing. Her late father was in the textile trade and her mother excelled in making clothes. Both inspired Lalita to pursue her own career in the fashion industry.
Lalita came to London as a student and went on to study interior design at the Inchbald School of Interior Design. She cut her teeth in the fashion world working for Matches Fashion in Wimbledon Village in the 1990s before opening her own shop – also in Wimbledon Village – in 1994, selling second-hand designer clothes. Four years later, Lalita diversified into selling ready to wear.
In 2004 Me & Maya was born when Lalita opened her flagship boutique in the historic town of Midhurst, West Sussex. Knowing her customers’ wardrobe needs and spotting a gap in the market for beautifully handmade garments for cocktails and classics, Lalita’s Me & Maya range offers a capsule collection of soft tailoring and separates - modern pieces for today’s woman.
Me & Maya’s flagship boutique is located at 1 Knockhundred Row, Midhurst, West Sussex, GU29 9DQ.
